A programme of SELF MADE stories from the ways we create our own sounds and images to collaboration and the unique threading together of personal stories and what we think of when we think of Self Making.

This programme of short films included Jill Uncredited. Prolific background actor Jill Goldston takes centre stage in this unique portrait by Anthony Ing. The film is a lyrical journey through popular culture, and a haunting study of a life lived out of focus. Canadian Cinematographer Jeremy Benning’s Footsteps looks at the self-made sounds of big budget foley in rural Ontario.

Self-made filmic themes continue in Bonnie Black’s Self Tape where we witness the mental breakdown of a young actress as she sits down to film a self tape and Caroline Rumeleys’ SFK look at young filmmakers camaraderie at the Schule Friedl Kubelka for Independent Film.

Creative assembly continues with award winning Matt Hulse glimpse at Helen Westhrop’s life in animation making and Tessa Garland Island Garden reimagines the garden assemblages and structures as mysterious relics, suspended between past and future. Blurring the line between a life stories, science and fiction. Tess Martin 1976 Search for life, Yan-Zhi Kang I Tried to Carry a Statue with Me, Victoria Guillem’s Building a Spaceship, and Film London Jarman Award nominee Karen Russo’s powerful Sinkholes

This themed programme of experimental documentaries coincided with our partnership screening of Gillian Wearing’s Self Made borrowing themes of creativity, filmmaking and self production as its starting point.
